I remember eating at Kenmount as a child with my parents. I thoroughly enjoyed the restaurant with the circle door .

After many years later, I too had thought the restaurant closed until a friend and I decided to give it a try.

The decor and atmosphere is quite dated, but fun to see and reminisce. It reminded me of an old fashioned Chinese restaurant like we use to visit.

Food was surprisingly delicious and portions were good. Price was reasonable and all dishes were cooked fresh to order. We ended our meal with oolong tea ... Yum!

Overall the food was great, service good, and memories plentiful!

A relative and I went there for supper around Nov 2, 2014. It was a rainy night. At the entrance were several bus pans on the floor. It appeared the roof was leaking badly.

People were sitting at about three different tables. After a long wait a waitress finally arrived to say that there was a family emergency and no food would be available for at least one hour.

We said we would just order appetizers and wait for our food but the waitress said that even appetizers would take an hour.

I suggested we order some soup but she said it would take an hour as well.

    We gave up and left.

I'm thoroughly impressed, and I really didn't think I would be. When we first moved to St. John's last year, my wife and I drove by this place, and we honestly thought it had been shut down. No cars in the parking lot, broken sign, very dated looking building, all signs pointed to it no longer being open.
Then my boss told me that, even though it looks kind of horrible, it has the best Chinese food he's ever had. I was skeptical, but finally gave it a chance tonight.
We went in, and I was even more skeptical. The decor is kind of odd, and there were only two other people in the restaurant. I was a bit worried. The food quickly remedied any worries I had.
We had the Pu Pu Platter to start, which had ribs, won tons, chicken wings, fried shrimp, skewers and egg rolls. I thought the won tons were just ok, but the chicken wings and ribs were delicious. My wife really liked the egg rolls and loved the shrimp.
We then had Beef with Broccoli, Sweet & Sour Chicken and Chicken Fried Rice. All of them met our (relatively high, imo) expectations of what Chinese Food should be (even if they aren't traditional Chinese dishes), and there was more than enough for the two of us. We have enough left over for at least another meal.
Overall, we definitely plan to go back and try some of the multitude of other dishes (both traditional and modern) that they offer.

The food itself is fine.  It's the tiny portions and the high prices that fail to impress.

The kitsch factor in the dining room is very impressive, though.  The place looks like it could have served as Kim Jong-Il's private supper club.  Top marks for that!
